Bare Copper and Copper Alloys begin to oxidise at 100°C. Cables with Copper or Copper Alloy conductor wires whose service temperatures are higher than this must therefore make use of plated conductor materials.

Tin Plating is widely used in medium temperature domestic and industrial cable and will perform in temperatures up to 150°C.
